Mission & Objectives

The mission of this project is to empower KNUST to serve as a national centre with scientifically based expertize, where fish feed formulation for local species are continuously improved. In collaboration with DTU Aqua, Denmark, the aim of this project to conduct the following:

  1. Continuous analysis and evaluation of the nutritional composition and quality of available potential local feed ingredients.
  2. Experimentally based feed formulation, taking into consideration the digestibility and biological value of ingredients, including evaluation of amino acid profiles of the protein sources and their potential to complement each other when combined.
  3. Establish the foundation for the implementation of ecological impacts of feeds developed, i.e. provide data on expected nutrients released when using the feeds in aquaculture.
  4. Evaluate the cost effectiveness of the diets.
  5. Evaluate different feeding strategies for optimum feed utilization
  6. Enhance the research and teaching capacity at KNUST through joint supervision by KNUST and Danish faculty of 2 PhD and 3 MPhil students enrolled at KNUST.
